'Choke' Vase
This piece is a beautiful representation of love and hate. I first created this piece in a set motivated by the pursuit to raise awareness for the victims of abuse. I wanted to showcase the strength and beauty within each piece, even if it has been altered in a negative state, which should ultimately “break” or “ruin” the piece.
She started out as a slender necked vase, much like the “white vase” I currently have for sale. With careful consideration, I altered the piece by choking the neck, to leave only a small hole, big enough for propagations or a small bouquet. This piece felt the most powerful in the collection because after a non-fatal choking incident, the rate of future homicide attempts against domestic violence victims goes up 45%.
This piece features an explosion of color right at the neck with a pure white finish everywhere else; highlighting what has happened to the piece and showcasing her strength and beauty through profound color.
This piece holds a special place in my heart and is perfect for smaller bouquets or your favorite plants to grow! She is wheel-thrown, hand blended porcelain clay; glazed and fired by the artist; standing at eight and a half inches tall, five and a half inches wide, and weighing nine pounds.
